There seems to be some confusion about our rights to use the wand icon and other icons from Arvid Axelsson's Qute icon pack. The concerns are discussed here. It appears below for convenience.

Aloha Daniel Star

Very nice wallpaper.

I am going to assume you used the SVG version of the AMI wand I had posted in the:
Graphics for Sheppard thread.
(*very nice extraction from the shadow BTW.[*if that is where you got the wand you used in your excellent wallpaper.]
Now the bummer part. I should not have posted that image & have removed it. I did not know the Qute icon pack was copyrighted, I assumed it was open source. I assumed this because of its use @ one time in the default Firefox theme, AMI's use of it, & that Arvid Axelsson's Kempelton icons are under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license. They(Qute) are not & I was stupid & arrogantly boasting of my SVG derivation when I posted my SVG version of the wand image in the Graphics for Sheppard thread . I was going to release a SVG version of the AMI banner with the SVG wand & can not do so without permission from Arvid Axelsson.

I am not going to ask permission, so I guess unless Seamiaden does ask & gets permission for me to modify it to a SVG version, then the image most likely should not be used by you or me in public, unless permission is granted to Seamaiden.

I know you spent time & are proud of your wallpaper(so am I, proud of you wallpaper), but I do not think it should be released to the public. Thats just my opinion ,I am not asking you to remove it, as that is up to you &/or Seamaiden.

I assumed a lot foolishly.(note:I am a fool & proud to be one :P , lol). I sadly stepped on the rights of another artists work in the process(Arvid Axelsson) & thus likely made it so another artists work is possibly unlawful to be distributed(Daniel Star).

I hope you Daniel Star, Seamaiden & Arvid accept my apology.

***If the wand in your wallpaper did not come from the SVG version I had posted in the Graphics for Sheppard thread. Simply say so & I shall apologize again for implying it did.

Peace

Boys, boys, boys...if you read the General Disclaimer, you would know that Arvid already gave us permission to use the wand icon as our logo and permission to use his other icons from Qute on our site. He told me this personally. And he read the sections of our disclaimer that pertained to him and did not find any issues with them. Please see Post 2 and Post 8 in the Disclaimer topic.

Qute Icons
The wand that TEM/AMI uses as its logo was designed by Arvid Axelsson for the Qute icon pack. Copyright © Arvid Axelsson, Arvid's icons and themes.
:accept: Arvid has given permission for us to use this icon as our logo. We can also use his other Qute icons on our site, but we cannot host the Qute or Kempelton icon packs themselves. Arvid prefers that they be downloaded only from his homepage.

Some of Arvid's other icons from the Qute icon pack can be found on the Portal and throughout the forum. Some of the icons have been modified and resized to suit our needs. Others are original and unaltered.

AMI retains the copyright and distribution rights for any artwork containing our name (Add-ons Mirror), our initials (AMI) or our logo Posted Image ©2007-2008 AMI. However, artwork containing the wand icon belongs to the original artists if it was not made for AMI and does not contain our name or initials. The wand icon itself is ©2007-2008 Arvid Axelsson.

As to your releasing a modified version of his icon, since it is going to be in an artwork designed for AMI and containing our logo, I do not think there should be a problem because we already have his permission. However, if you were planning to release modified version of his icons to the public under your own name, he would most definitely have an issue with that.

And also, Arvid did give us permission to host his themes here at AMI, but we cannot host the icon packs themselves. He prefers that they be downloaded only from his site, and I believe I have a note about that in the Qute and Kempelton theme listings.

Several icons and custom emoticons on this web site and its subdomains were made by Spinello. He also modified several icons from the various sets listed above.
  • :image: Original icons: Rights to icons made by Spinello for AMI belong to Spinello, except for those which contain our name, initials or logo. Read the Original Content section below for more information.
  • :image_edit: Modified icons: Rights to icons made by someone else and modified by Spinello belong to the original authors.
I can add a note that other people have contributed to modifying some of the icons used by AMI. This would include Daniel, Alex, and anyone else here in the Graphic Design forum that helped us "modify and resize them to suit our needs".

I did not know AMI had permission to modify the wand. I simply saw Copyright © & not an open source which I ignorantly thought they were.

After reading Post 2 & 8 in the General Disclaimer(below)

I now see/read AMI has permission to modify them & not only use them.

Therefore I apologize for any confusion I personally had or may have caused, about the use SVG wand mod I did.
I am happy it might be useful for or used by AMI.
I now thank(mahalo)Arvid Axelsson for his permissions given to AMI to use & mod his work in AMI graphics.

I also thank(mahalo) Arvid Axelsson for all his art contributions to the world.
***side note:Kemplton IMO demonstrates his out of this world talent, that rocks this world more & more with each release of his efforts , as his art grows forth.

Peace
My surname Spinello means cannabis in Italian. Thus my Hemperor theme is from my heart.
All my (public) theme releases(Hemperor, Hawaii, SoccerFox, & FootballFox) can also be found @ my site:Posted Image

I forgot to include this in the first post.

If you use a modified Qute icon in a work that is not designed for AMI, I think you would also have a problem.

For anyone who's wondering, the new Clear Private Data icon in the latest versions of MR Tech Local Install also comes from Qute. Mel Reyes (mrtech) and I have obtained permission from Arvid to use this icon in MTLI.
:lock24:
And we also have permission from David Vignoni to use the new Options icon from Nuvola in MTLI, as well as in Michael Buckley's Toolbar Buttons and related extensions. AMI can use Nuvola icons in this web site and forum.
:option24:

Please review the General Disclaimer to see permissions we have for other authors.
  • Crystal sets by Everaldo Coelho and YellowIcon.com
  • Qute by Arvid Axelsson
  • Nuvola by David Vignoni
  • Silk by Mark James (open source)
  • Original icons by Spinello and other authors
Be very careful with anything you find at crystalxp.net. A lot of their stuff DOES require permission from the author, but some does not so long as you give them credit and link to their site. Their downloadable zip files in the gallery usually include a readme or license file that describes your rights and limitations. Always read that.
