Seamonkey icons

Quote

This is a response to the request @ this link:
http://home.kairo.at..._windows_needed
I have created this thread so that those of the SeaMonkey development newsgroup can view & discuss what I have come up with.
(AMI member comments are welcome as well)

Aloha Kairo
I think I have interpreted your instructions for file types correctly & have come up with a set of icons that was asked for.
I have made 8 bit alpha (standard)pngs, indexed(custom palette)pngs, & 16 color EGA/CGA indexed palette pngs.
(note: the 16 color ones are transparent but I could place them on a solid background if needed.)

I can put together .ico files together once a decision is made as to the *variations I have come up with.(That is if the community chooses/likes them.)
(I do not know what is needed for GTK2 icons & do not have a program to make Mac icons. It seems someone else can do what is required with the pngs.)

*There are 2 variations of addressbookWindow & the 16 pixel jsconsolWindow icons to choose from.
I tried to use the influence of the icons I found within the SeaMonkey 2 (trunk nightlies).
In many places I had to try to recreate SVG versions of existing pngs & gifs as best as I could (to go larger in pixel size).

Here are of the icons placed on a blue XP windowbar color background.
Posted Image

/*:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

If they are deemed worthy by the
Seamonkey family,
Posted Image(lol)

I shall put together a .zip file & provide a link the individual files zipped up.
/*:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

notes:
in abcardWindow & addressbookwindow
I tried to give a unisex look to the character.

I used a checkmark for bookmark properties as that is what is used in Firefox.
(the original bmprops was the same icon as bookmark-window)

The official cZ seemed better than the winking smiley for chatzilla.
(I did have to recreate a svg version of the cZ so it is not exact in detail.)

For editorWindow & msgcompose I tried to give a feel for the paper & blue fountain pen seen in editoricons.png & messengericons.png seen in the trunk nightly.

For messengerWindow I tried to provide the look of the envelopes found in messengericons.png.

The original template-window icon was damaged & seemed to not have any style image to go with it, so I came up with the image I used.

For venkman-window I created a SVG version of the official venkman bug image I saw on this page:
http://www.hacksrus....enkman-faq.html

***I would also like to let you know that: seamonkey\chrome\classic\skin\classic\communicator\taskbar
contains three gif images of a ships wheel that are possibly others property(Netscape).
http://www.mozilla.o...trademarks.html
I saw that an original ships wheel graphic might be needed 4 Seamonkey, so I created this version of one.
Posted Image(its a .gif)
It is based of this big version of a ships wheel I have up my sleeve.(I do not think you need a big wheel, I simply like to display my efforts. )

Everything in the mozilla codebase has now been re-licenced under the triple MPL/GPL/LGPL licence. Mozilla.org inherited the rights from Netscape when they founded Mozilla.org.

Otherwise very nice. :) But I don't know about the 16 colour EGA icons. I thought that SeaMonkey's minimum requirements are 256 colours anyway, but you'll have to ask KaiRo about this.

Philip Chee I do agree that the 16 color versions made me also say to myself
"why are they needed". I am sure Kairo has his reasons. I simply provided them as that was what he asked 4.

As far as the navigator ships wheel. I simply found that page.
http://www.mozilla.o...trademarks.html
& thought it was worth mentioning (& I like my ships wheel better.)
My new & improved version. :D

Thank you(mahalo) for the positive feedback. Your kind feedback comment on my artwork is worth more than fort knox to me. As an artist that does his art for free, kind words stroke my head like as to a kitten. Whereas stroking my wallet would only lead to me being bitten by the collar & leash I call the dollar.

On the SeaMonkey development newsgroup Kairo responded that he liked version 1 of the addressbook icons.
(Kairo is not a member here "yet".)

Kairo also asked 4 me to redo the jsconsole icons, as jsconsole is currently called "error console". So I handcrafted SVG versions of:
Posted Image

I decided to leave out the messages one as it is blue.
Blue on blue would be absorbed into the Seamonkey sphere to much IMO.

I redid all of the indexed "custom palette" icons to give them anti alias on the inner parts.
*Note* Anti alias is impossible on indexed images on the outer edges(of the circles) as a background color is needed to do anti alias.

I did not note it in my first post but I included 24 pixel versions of all of the icons as I thought they might be useful (even know they were not asked for).

Now a decision needs to be made about the 2 console versions.
Red errors octagon or yellow warnings triangle?
Here are all of the new & improved icons placed on a blue XP windowbar color background.

Here is a link to a zip file with all of the pngs, icos, & SVGs.
http://www.spinelloz...ns-complete.zip

KaiRo please let me know once you have received it.
(Either on this forum or in the Seamonkey newsgroup, so I can remove the zip from the server I placed them on.)

Simply let me know what to write or to sign 4 the license stuff.

Aloha

The zip file mentioned in the post above has been removed from my server, as KaiRo told me on the Seamonkey newsgroup he has received it.

I would like to mention to Seamiaden that Kairo mentioned in the newsgroup on 9/20/07 that he had registered but could not post yet.
Today he stated he still can not post here.

Here is what KaiRo said in the newsgroup today:

Quote

I downloaded the package, but I can't reply on the forum as I apparently have no permission to post there, even though I'm registered now.

This is not a big deal as I can converse with KaiRo in the newsgroup ,but makes me wonder if others are experiencing such a barrier as well & thought that I should bring it to the boards attention.

Aloha every1

On the Seamonkey newsgroup some changes were asked for.
(a messenger envelope without the arrow with a better color match of the outlines & a less heavy/deep red for the octagon.)
*the 16 color envelope still has a lighter gray on the envelope & the dark red on the octagon. (16 color palettes. :S lol)
So here they are:

& here is a zip of the pngs icos & SVGs:

KaiRo please let me know once you have received it.

I shall get to work on the other suggestions that I saw this morning on the newsgroup.

Aloha every1

Here are sets for:

downloadManager:
I based it on a self made SVG reproduction of downloadIcon.png Posted Image which is the standard download icon in Seamonkey & other Moz works.

I saw some discussion on the mail group about the browser window & chatZilla.
So I did a set based on the seamonkey shrimp on a self made reproduction of the deerpark globe.

The deer park globe is the freely distributable generic globe logo Mozilla has no trademark on it.(just MPL it seems?) The deerpark globe is 4 free use on non "Mozilla Firefox" builds.
*** If any one knows a link to or whom to contact to get the SVG/source of the deer park globe, please relay such info to me.(I did not need it here but have needed it in the past & will likely need it in the future.(If it is MPL it would seem to me the source/SVG is required to be available.)

If a set of my version of a ships wheel is wanted let me know.(it seemed from what I read on the newsgroup a wheel was not wanted. *I like the deer park one I came up with the best :)

If the plain envelope is not satifactory I can do the one Neil suggested, simply let me know.

For chatZilla I did a plain bubble as suggested & a white letter with black outline cZ version as the Moz red cZ did not go over well with every1. I also included some Seamonkey usable icons of the drafts I have come up with for the chatZilla family, for just in case the chatZilla family wants to use my ideas.
(*KaiRo mentioned he spoke with them & they are not to fond of the cZ logo.)

I also did a set for the mail list window as was asked for by Mark Banner.

& a plain Seamonkey sphere with no shrimp set.

Here they are showcased:

& here is the zip with pngs icos & SVGs:
http://www.spinelloz...onkey-icons.zip
*let me know you got it.

KaiRo
Please give a link to this thread(bottom of post #7 in this thread.) to the chatZilla family so they can see & get the zip file for these proposals that I now unveil & propose for a new chatZilla logo.

Here they are showcased:

& heres the zip with pngs & SVGs:
http://www.spinelloz...lla-project.zip
I will keep it on the server for a while or until I hear the ChatZilla family have gotten it.

I believe we would possibly want to take the red dino + white bubble one, but only if the dino were less comical/bubble-head shaped? Right now it looks like, to quote Silver on it, "high on drugs". Clearly we wouldn't want to be advocating anything... ;-)

Mark from the SeaMonkey team says:

The only other one I'm not sure about is the new mailing list window one. Perhaps several people on a card, or just several people might do it. Not sure how well it would scale though.

Aloha KaiRo

On the ChatZilla dino heads, I used a grey out line to make the eyes more noticeable @ small sizes. I admit they look bigeyed @ large sizes. I figured there would be not much use of the large size & the bigeyes would not be an issue.(IMO they do not look like they are on drugs, but I can comprehend people wanted more options so here is what I have come up with:
Posted Image
I made the out line black to make them appear less bigeyed (to a degree) on all three sets.
One still has the shape of a bubble.
One has no neck.
One has a small neck.
*Please relay to the ChatZilla family that I have placed some more images in this thread(post#9) & that If they decide to choose a set, I shall post a zip file link here with the master SVG, ico's, & pngs. *if they want to use one of the new sets.)

On the Seamonkey mailing list window here are some more options:
Posted Image

I read on the news group where someone said the images are blocky.
The full color ones are not blocky & are anti aliased to match all backgrounds due to non indexed pngs ability to have degrees of transparency.(indexed is on or off transparency).
The 256 color indexed are going to be blocky on the edges.
Let me try to explain why. Indexed images can not be anti aliased unless one knows the background they will sit on.
Here is an animated indexed image:
Posted Image
It cycles through a dark background & the light background it was semi~flattened/anti~aliased to.
It reveals the hidden anti~aliased pixels that appear, only when placed on a background that is not exactly matched to the image.
These icons shall be on all types of systems & window headers where they sit come in all colors & shades.
If I semi~flattened/anti~alias the indexed images to windows XP blue, they would look even blockier than they do now if they appeared on any other background shade or color.
I feel the sets should be fine, as most people use computers that can handle pngs & shall see the non blocky pngs.
Posted Image
(I hope all that makes some sense)

If you want to use one of the new sets for mailing list window let me know bottom middle or top?
Then I can place a zip file link here with the master SVG, ico's, & pngs.
(My two cents * I like the set you already have for mailing list window.)

Peace
