Davide

This does not work on Firefox 1.0.8, 1.5.0.12 or the two latest versions of Flock. The green button is missing from the navbar. Do you want to troubleshoot why, or do you just want to adjust compatibility for Firefox 2 and higher and for Netscape 9?

TEST RESULTS
- Firefox 1.0.8
- Firefox 1.5.0.12
+ Firefox 2.0.0.4
+ Firefox 3.0a5 Gran Paradiso
+ Firefox 3.0a6 Gran Paradiso
+ Firefox 3.0a6 Minefield
- Flock 0.7.14
- Flock 0.8.0.99
+ Netscape 9.0b1

Add a new button in navigation bar that allows to copy feed URLs to clipboard.

During browser navigation I often discover interesting RSS feeds, and I want to add them quickly to my feed reader (Thunderbird) by pasting the URLs. Using RichFeedButton, now it's possible.

I will fix support for FF 1.5.x ASAP, I hope to resolve the problem next week but if you agree this version can be published without 1.0.8 and 1.5.x support.
I don't want to support flock (read the modification on my blog Flock is a bug!!! )
Honestly I don't use NS so I forgot it  but I want to use your bumped version and include the NS9 (I'll try 8 too) support.

thanks in advance

Let me know when the new official build is uploaded, and we can use that. Then I will create a listing for this.

Since I have not heard from you, I went ahead and created an official listing for RichFeedButton.

This is for version 0.0.1.

It uses the following compatibility:
[fx09] 2.0 - 3.0a6 [ns] 9.0b1 - 9.0

AMI Listing

GUID: {b8d2a4ab-1036-42df-969b-60cc8dfe85a9}
Author: Davide Ficano
Version: 0.0.11
Size: 8KB
Date: 2007-07-06
Compatibility: [fx09] 1.5 - 3.0a6 [fl] 0.4 - 0.8 [ns] 9.0b1 - 9.0
style_images/1/homepage.png Homepage | Support Forum | Discussion

What's New:
Added Netscape and Flock compatibility
Added ToolTip showing the feeds list

TEST RESULTS

+ Firefox 1.5.0.12
+ Firefox 2.0.0.4
+ Firefox 3.0a6
+ Firefox 3.0a7
+ Flock 0.7.14
- Flock 0.8.0.99
+ Netscape 9.0b1

It will not install in Flock 0.8 (Sulfur), the Firefox 2-based Flock, until you change maxVersion to 0.8.*. Even then, the green icon is missing, so it does not work in Sulfur for some reason. It does, however, work in Flock 0.7, the Firefox 1.5-based Flock. Flock compatibility should be reduced to 0.4 - 0.7.* or 0.7 - 0.7.*.

I do not know what Gecko (Firefox) versions that Flock 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 are based on. Only Flock 0.7 (Firefox 1.5-based) and Flock 0.8 (Firefox 2-based) were tested.

Actual Compatibility: [fx09] 1.5 - 3.0a7 [fl] 0.7 - 0.7.* [ns] 9.0b1 - 9.0.*

Davide, do you want to do some more tweaking on Sulfur or just remove it from compatibility and go with this modification?

unfortunately this extension breaks the search plugin dropdown menu. perhaps a conflict with "organize search engines" extension, which i refuse to do without.

I've installed Sulfur and all works fine  (see screenshot below), I have only changed the max ver to 1.0 (0.8.* seems incorrect).

The Sulfur version used is: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070707 Firefox/2.0.0.4 Sulfur/1.0pre
I've used a clean profile.

Eight months ago, pile0nades and I wrote a userChrome.js script that adds menuitems to Toolbar Context Menu to copy feeds URL. It's much easier than adding a new button next to feed button. It works on FF 1.5 - 2.0.0.* and Flock 0.7 - 0.9b (see screenshot). If you're interested, see this post and 4 posts below.

Your solution is simply excellent!

My idea is based to really have a new button, your approach reuses the existing one.
Consider I want the original feed button continues to work as usual, for example if web page contains only one feed the standard "orange" button doesn't show a menu but opens the subscription feed page.
Using a separated button (my "green" button) the standard behaviour isn't broken or changed (IMHO).

BTW, your code is a XUL's masterpiece.
I'm glad that LouCypher spends his time to help me to enhance my bonsai extension.

Thank you very much :-)

RichFeedButton 0.0.11

This is the error I first saw with Sulfur. This is a brand new clean profile with no extensions. (SmartWhois is a global add-on, not profile-specific.)

Posted Image

But then I uninstalled and reinstalled it a few times, clicked "Check for Updates", and it applied a compatibility update. Then it installed fine. And I tried installing it in two other Sulfur profiles and there were no problems. There might have been something left in the original profile from the version 0.0.1 test that was interfering with version 0.0.11.
